Maureen Paley, 1997. Edition of 1500 copies. Softcover. 96 pages. 23 x 15,5 cm. Text in English. Used. VG · Slight sun bleaching to top cover (Faded top cover) She was one of the first artists that caught my attention when I was studying Fine Arts in the 90s :) And this is a wonderful and meaningful work in her career - first significant collaboration with people that were shown again in 1997 when she won the Turner Prize - Wearing has written about this collaboration with these passers in South London area: "When most people are stopped in the street they expect to be asked questions usually concerned with either a product, money, a survey, a personality test or directions. To be asked only ti write something, anything, presents a challenge and creates a totally different relationship to the person posing the question (...) Perhaps the fascination in the relationship between the person and their slogan is in the confidence or diffidence of the people being 'imaged' in the first place. This image interrupts the logic of photo-documentary and snapshot photography by the subjects clear collusion and engineering of their own representation."  Brilliant work, brilliant book, and one of 1500 copies!
